Who ever coined the phrase "you've made your bed and now you must lie in it" probably didn't have Spoonies in mind. I made my bed today and then had to crawl right back in it. Yes, I know the phrase is meant to be metaphoric, but let's consider it from multiple angles...

1. Literally, you actually made your bed and have to mess it up by laying on it. What was all the fuss about? Why even make the bed to begin with? You put in effort, used up energy that you may not have to spare. Waste of time.

2. Symbolically, you have manipulated the parts and pieces of the situation to be exactly just so and knowing you created the situation, you have no other choice but to deal with it

3. A bit of a tangent here, but stay with me-- U.S. Navy Adm. William H. McCraven told the graduates of the University of Texas, "If you want to change the world, start by making your bed." He continues, explaining that one task completed can lead to another and another, and so forth. He eventually wraps up the speech with saying that if you have accomplished nothing else, at least you can come home to a bed that is made.

Personally, I think McCraven was on to something. You can take his words literally, or you can think of them on a more spiritual, global level. Just like Michael Jackson started with "the man in the mirror" it means change starts within you. If you want to have change in whatever arena, you have to put yourself, your mind and spirit right. It's hard work, but necessary. You can't control the actions or reactions of others, but you can change your response to them. This also sets the tone for leading by example.

So, just out of curiosity, how many of you made your bed today? I made my bed. ME/CFS laughed and asserted that I had used all of my allotted spoons for the day. I got back in bed thinking of the quote that inspired this post. Then as I was typing, ME/CFS cackled once more. It decided that the letter "f" should be the number "7" and some phrases were condensed to the beginning of one word + the end of another word. So forgive any typos and errors. :)

This was my final piece of 2019. I combined Neurographica with portrait drawing. <3
